LESSON 49
How the auditory nerve codes sound
- Year 1
- Spring semester
- Physiology II
- Hearing and balance physiology
- Duration: 11:37
Auditory nerve fibers code the frequency of a sound by which fiber fires (place coding) and by the timing of spikes (phase locking), and its intensity by firing rate and the number of active fibers. In this lesson we look at tuning curves, the rate-level function, the three fiber groups by spontaneous rate, and what these principles mean in the clinic.
